

ABOUT US
Tamil Nadu Warehousing Corporation (TNWC) was established under the Agriculture Produce (Development and Warehousing) Corporation Act 1956, and commenced its activities on 2nd May 1958. Later its functioning came under the purview of the Warehousing Corporation Act 1962. At present the Tamil Nadu Warehousing Corporation is functioning throughout the State with 62 Warehouses territorially spread over 7 Regions with a Storage Capacity of 7.81 Lakh MTs.
Objectives
- To provide scientific storage facilities to Farmers, Traders, Food Corporation of India, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Limited to minimize storage losses and also to NAFED, TASMAC, TNTBS, TANFED, ONGC, Co-operatives, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, RCF, FACT, etc.
- To promote and develop scientific storage facilities to maximize the selling price to farmers, traders, etc.
- To arrange facilities for transport of agricultural produce, seeds, manures, fertilizers, agricultural implements and notified commodities to and from warehouses;
- To maintain quality and grade of the commodities through prophylactic and curative treatment, and to maintain minimal Storage Loss in food grain stocks stored by the depositors.
Following are the key activities of the corporation
- Acquire land and builds warehouse on scientific lines at potential place after conducting market survey.
- Provides negotiable warehouse receipts to the farmers & depositors to avail credit facilities from the banks by pledging the same.
- Appoints Handling & Transport contractors for clearing the good loading / unloading & transportation of stock for the conveniences of the depositors.
- Carrying out disinfestations / pest control services in their own godowns as well as in various government & private buildings.
Setup
The TNWC is working under the administrative control of Govt. of Tamil Nadu in Co-operation deparment.
The Managing Director as the Chief Executive of the corporation exercises such powers, functions and duties as the Board of Directors may entrust or delegate to him assisted by Executives at different level.
There are four divisions mainly :
